Sub-Department of Water Ecology

About the Sub-Department

Members of the Sub-Department of Water Ecology study various areas of inland water ecology by putting emphasis on the ecology of phytoplankton and phytobenthos, as well as freshwater invertebrates with a focus on macrozoobenthos, zooplankton, ciliates and fouling communities on various surfaces. The research is focused on freshwater ecological systems of Croatia. Special interest is put on continuous multidisciplinary research into aquatic biotopes in the floodplain of the Kopački Rit Nature Park.

The Sub-Department of Water Ecology also carries out professional projects related to protection of freshwater ecological systems. Such projects are realized in cooperation with national and foreign partner institutions, and research activities are also conducted outside Croatia.
